Ceilidh dances, big name acts, pub sing-alongs, silent discos, theatre, lively roots parties, fireworks and parades, it’s a week not to miss. Regular buses run from outside the Cannon Inn to the centre of Sidmouth and the heart of the action and keep going until late in the evening. We are the ideal Bed and Breakfast for those wanting a bit of peace and quiet but not wanting to miss any of the action.
A world famous event that has been running for hundreds of years, Ottery St Mary on Tar Barrel night has to be seen to be believed! To summerise, teams of “Barrel Rollers” (men, women and even children at times) carry, run and pass burning barrels of tar between them while the narrow streets and walk-ways are packed with thousands of petrified on-lookers. The event can be scary, loud and at times dangerous. If you want somewhere to stay that is just a short taxi journey away but far enough to escape the madness, the Cannon in is the ideal B and B.
